How much does the ARC grant pay towards removing your uralita roof in Catalonia?
In Catalonia, the Agència de Residus de Catalunya (ARC, the Catalan Waste Agency) subsidises asbestos removal per square metre of roof removed, up to €30,000 per property. The ARC grant only applies to properties located in Catalonia; elsewhere in Spain, we tell you about the grants available. If your property is in Catalonia, work out yours:
Not sure of the size? A single-storey house usually has 60 to 120 m² of roof. We'll measure it by satellite for your quote.
Estimated ARC grant**
€3,200
Bracket: €40/m².
Indicative cost of removal***
€2,850 – €4,900
+ VAT. The grant would cover between 65% and 100% of the removal.
Not covered by the grant: VAT and the new roof. So, to be honest: the removal may end up almost fully covered; the new roof is paid by you.
The ARC (Catalan Waste Agency) grant scheme is only for properties in Catalonia. In other regions of Spain, we'll tell you which grants are available.
I want a quote for my roofARC 2026 grant brackets
Maximum €30,000 per property.
| Area removed | Grant |
|---|---|
| Under 50 m² | €2,000 flat |
| 50 to 99 m² | €40/m² |
| 100 to 499 m² | €30/m² |
| 500 to 999 m² | €25/m² |
| 1,000 m² or more | €20/m² |
We apply the bracket amount to the whole area (e.g. 80 m² × €40/m² = €3,200). The rules of each call for applications prevail: we check the calculation against your application.
What you need to know about the ARC grant call
The 2026 call has closed
It was open from 18 June to 2 July 2026. A new call is expected in 2027.
It is retroactive
It covers work already done within the period set by each call. You can do the work now and apply when the next call opens, if its rules keep this.
First come, first served
It is not competitive: grants are awarded in order of application until the budget runs out. Applying on day one with everything ready makes a difference.
Limited budget
€10.5M in 2026, of which €8.5M for private individuals and private companies. At around €30/m², it covers only a small part of what is removed each year.
It does not cover everything
VAT (IVA in Spain) and the new roof are not eligible. The grant pays for the asbestos removal.
Online only
The application is submitted electronically and signed by the property owner.
In all honesty: the grant depends on there being a call, on its budget and on you meeting its requirements. We will never give you a quote that only makes sense if you get the grant.
Usual requirements
Summary of the requirements of the ARC 2026 call (Catalonia only). Each call publishes its own rules: we go through them with you before starting.
- Property located in Catalonia: homes, owners' associations, industrial buildings and other privately owned buildings.
- Removal carried out by a company registered in the RERA (Spain's register of companies at asbestos risk), with its work plan approved by the labour authority.
- Waste delivered to an authorised waste manager, with proof of transport and delivery.
- Invoices and proof of payment for the removal, kept separate from the rest of the work.
- Work done within the period covered by the call and application submitted on time.
- Being up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, as with any public grant.
What we do
- 1
We include the grant in your quote
Using your roof's real square metres and the rate that applies to you, separating what is eligible from what is not.
- 2
We do the work so it qualifies
Removal by personnel registered in the RERA with an approved work plan, an authorised waste manager and invoices split by item.
- 3
We keep the paperwork in your folder
Work plan, waste receipts, before and after photos and the final removal certificate.
- 4
We prepare the application
We let you know when the call is published and have it ready for you to sign on day one.
- 5
We follow up on your file
If the ARC asks for something to be corrected, we sort it out with you until the decision.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply if the work is already done?
Yes, if the work falls within the period covered by the call: the 2026 call was retroactive. What matters is keeping the work plan, the waste receipts and the invoices.
Does the grant cover the new roof?
No. The call pays for the asbestos removal. The new roof, solar panels and VAT are not eligible.
How long does it take to get paid?
It depends on each call's decision: first the grant is awarded, then it is paid. That is why we never plan the work as if the grant were an advance.
What if the budget runs out?
Applications that don't make it in do not receive the grant in that call. That is why it is worth having everything ready before it opens and applying on day one.
Can owners' associations apply?
Yes, for roofs, downpipes and other common parts with asbestos. The application is signed by the association's representative with the approval of the owners' meeting.
