Source: ICGC census of fibre-cement roofs (3Cat)This is the estimate from the fibre-cement roof census of the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (Catalonia's mapping and geology institute). Most of it was installed before 2002 and, according to the census itself, the vast majority is asbestos-cement. At around 17.5 kg per square metre, that is roughly 1,012,000 m² of roofing in the city.
What we do in Barcelona
Asbestos certificate to sell or rent out. Since 3 October 2026 it has been mandatory throughout Catalonia, including Barcelona. We give you the price from your address and a qualified technician visits your property.
Asbestos-cement (uralita) roof replacement. We measure your roof by satellite, give you a price range straight away and a fixed quote from photos. Removal is carried out by personnel registered in the RERA (Spain's register of companies at asbestos risk), under our technician's direction, and the waste goes to the authorised landfill in Castellolí.
Local council permit. Replacing a roof requires a notice or a permit from the Ajuntament (town council) of Barcelona. We handle it together with the work plan.
ARC grant. Owners in Barcelona (Barcelonès) can apply for the Agència de Residus de Catalunya grant per square metre of roof removed, up to €30,000.

Do I need an asbestos certificate to sell a flat in Barcelona?
Yes. Llei 8/2026 (Catalonia's asbestos law) requires it for every sale or rental in Catalonia since 3 October 2026, whatever the age of the building.
